Chalco Stamp & Die was formed in 1996 and the workshop has been based out of Knuston Home Farm for the last 10 years.
We are a working symbiotic partnership relying on each other’s skills to produce fine work We consider our work to be a craft in itself, taking great pleasure and pride in the work we create.
Everything we produce at the workshop is finished by hand and nothing is mass produced, we use traditional methods and very little of our work relies on computerised solutions
I would really recommend Chalco Stamp & Die, I have had various marks made by them, they a master mark makers and engravers and are capable of making excellent marks for all materials.
Ian Houghton's work is exemplary and demonstrates his innate skill as both an artist and true craftsman. We approached him initially to make stamps for our world class saws, as we liked his traditional values and practices. Now having worked with him on various commissions over a number of years, we can say that we have never been disappointed with his work and his hand- engraved pieces are second to none. He enjoys a creative challenge and always executes to a high standard any brief or design that we give him. Ian is passionate about his craft and this is reflected in his work, but above all he is a delightful and caring person to work with.
Chalco Stamp and Die Company worked with our drawings to create two beautiful brass impress logo stamps with wooden handles, which we use to produce our clay test tiles. The stamps give a clean, sharp impression in the clay and are a joy to use. We've used many other stamp companies over the years, and Chalco are by far the best. We will continue to recommend them to others working in clay!
Today I visited Ian (& his apprentice Ian) at the brilliant Chalco Stamp & Die Co. in Irchester, just down the road from where we make the @fill_co products in Northamptonshire. Nestled in their workshop, listening to Radio 3, these wonderful craftsmen couldn't have been more helpful - talking me through the whole process & giving me a short lesson in brass stamp engraving (they even let me have a go at hand marking and cutting) showing me exactly how they made this beautiful brass 8mm @fill_co stamp for a new project we'll be working on soon. Swipe to see some photos of the process, using this cool engraving machine from 1950. If you need a stamp or die... #chalcostampanddie #madeinbritain
Chalco understood our exact requirements from the initial meeting. From the first point of contact to the end finished products the service was nothing but exceptional. Chalco definitely exceeded our expectations.
I am a hobbyist toolmaker and woodworker intending to convert my plane making into a retirement business. Ian provided me with a stamp created with the finest workmanship, and displays a sense of vintage authenticity I desired. You will not find finer people to work with.
